AntivolPrivacy Policy

Last updated: July 25, 2026

Antivol ("the App", "we", "us") is an anti-theft alarm for MacBooks with a companion app for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. This policy explains what information the App handles, where it is stored, and the choices you have.

We designed Antivol to be private by default: your alerts and photos live in your iCloud account, and we do not run a server that receives them.

At a glance

  • We do not operate a backend server that stores or processes your alerts, photos, or other personal content. Your data syncs through your own iCloud account.
  • The App has no user accounts to create or maintain — authentication is handled entirely by your Apple ID.
  • We do not sell, rent, or share your data, and there is no advertising or tracking.
  • Photos and alerts stay in your private iCloud database — we cannot see them.
  • You can delete any alert at any time from the App.

Who this policy covers

This policy applies to the Antivol apps for macOS, iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS distributed through the Apple App Store and TestFlight.

Information the App handles

Depending on the features you use, the App processes:

  • Alert events — the trigger type (power unplugged, lid closed, motion detected, or failed unlock attempt), a timestamp, and the Mac's display name.
  • Alert photos — images captured by the Mac's built-in camera when an alarm fires, if photo capture is enabled. Photos are skipped when the lid is closed.
  • Device presence — whether a Mac is armed, online, and its display name, so you can arm or disarm it remotely from your iPhone or iPad.
  • App settings — your trigger preferences, alarm volume, motion sensitivity, and similar options.
  • Notification identifiers — a record of which alerts have already been shown, so you are not notified twice for the same event.

The App does not collect or receive your name, email address, contacts, location, browsing history, or advertising identifiers.

Where your data is stored

  • Your private iCloud database (CloudKit). Alert metadata, photos, and Mac device records are stored in the App's private iCloud container. Only your Apple ID — and devices signed into the same Apple ID — can access this data. We have no access to it.
  • On your Mac. When iCloud is unreachable, alerts (and photos) are saved locally on the Mac and uploaded automatically once a connection returns. If you enable lock screen when arming and set an unlock passcode, only a salted hash of that passcode is stored in the Mac Keychain — never the passcode itself, never in iCloud, and never sent to us.
  • On your iPhone / iPad. Alerts and photos are cached locally so the list loads instantly and works offline.
  • On your Apple Watch. The Watch app receives alerts and device status from the paired iPhone over Apple's encrypted device-to-device connection (it does not talk to iCloud directly), and caches recent alerts locally so they remain visible offline.
  • On device settings storage. Your preferences are stored in the system's standard app preferences.

How your data is used

Your information is used only to make the App work:

  • To sound an alarm, capture a photo, and record an alert when a trigger fires.
  • To sync alerts between your Mac and your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch.
  • To send you a push notification when a new alert is recorded.
  • To let you arm or disarm your Mac remotely.
  • To show an optional lock screen overlay when the Mac is armed, until you enter your unlock passcode.

We do not use your data for analytics, profiling, advertising, or any purpose unrelated to the App's core function.

Apple services we rely on

Antivol uses Apple services only:

  • iCloud / CloudKit — synchronization and storage of your alerts, photos, and device records.
  • Apple Push Notification service (APNs) — delivery of notifications to your devices.

Your use of these services is also governed by Apple's privacy policy: apple.com/legal/privacy.

We do not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, crash-reporting, or tracking SDKs, and the App sends us no usage statistics or diagnostic data. Any diagnostics you may choose to share with Apple are governed by your device's analytics settings and Apple's privacy policy.

Permissions the App may request

You are always in control. The App may ask for the following, and you can change or revoke each in System Settings (Mac) or Settings (iPhone/iPad):

  • Notifications (iPhone/iPad) — to deliver alert notifications.
  • Camera (Mac) — to capture a photo when an alarm fires.
  • Motion (Mac) — to detect movement of the MacBook.
  • iCloud (all) — to sync alerts between your devices.
  • Automation (Mac, optional) — to pause Apple Music just before the alarm sounds.
  • Accessibility (Mac, optional fallback) — used only as a media-key fallback to pause playback when Automation is unavailable.
  • Photos (iPhone/iPad, optional) — only when you choose to save an alert photo to your photo library.
  • Mac login verification (Mac, on by default — can be turned off) — Touch ID or your Mac password before disarming, stopping the alarm, opening settings, or quitting the app.
  • Unlock passcode (Mac, optional) — if you enable lock screen when arming, you choose a passcode that is stored locally on your Mac (hashed in the Keychain) to dismiss the overlay. This is separate from your Mac login password and is not synced to iCloud.

Denying an optional permission simply disables that specific feature; the rest of the App keeps working.

Data retention and deletion

  • Alerts remain in your iCloud account until you delete them in the App on your Mac, iPhone, or iPad.
  • The App keeps a catalog of your most recent alerts (up to 1,000); as new alerts arrive, the oldest catalog entries are dropped.
  • Deleting an alert removes it from iCloud and from the caches on your devices.
  • If you sign out of iCloud or switch to a different Apple ID, the previously cached data for the old account is cleared from the device.
  • To remove everything, delete your alerts in the App and uninstall it; you may also manage the App's data in your iCloud storage settings.

Security

  • Data in transit is protected by Apple's encrypted CloudKit and APNs services.
  • Your alerts and photos stay within your private iCloud container.
  • No Antivol-operated server ever stores or processes your content.
  • Your unlock passcode (if set) exists only as a hash in the Mac Keychain on that Mac.

While no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, we rely on Apple's platform protections to safeguard your data.

Children's privacy

Antivol is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your rights

Because your data stays in your iCloud account, you can access, export, or delete it directly through the App or through your iCloud storage settings. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (such as access, correction, or deletion) under laws like the GDPR or CCPA. Since we do not hold your data on our own servers, many requests can be fulfilled by you directly within the App; for anything else, contact us using the details below.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date shown on this page, and significant changes may also be noted in the App or its release notes. If required by applicable law, we will provide additional notice or request your consent before changes take effect.
